Eight of the ten tours sit on GuruWalk, so those links carry a GuruWalk code, while the remaining two, both run by Dan Vernier, sit on freetour.com and carry that platform's code instead. Booking either way costs nothing up front. All ten walks work on tips: the walker pays the guide directly, chooses the amount, and only once a tip has actually been given does a share of it come back here. No guide, operator or tour company has paid for a place on this site, and none was ever offered one. The parks, courtyards and neighbourhoods described around the walks cost nothing regardless of how you found them.

How This Site Makes Money

There is one revenue stream and nothing else. Every walk link leads to GuruWalk or freetour.com and carries a referral code inside it. When a visitor books through one of those links and later tips the guide, the platform passes a share of that tip back to this site. What the walker pays never changes: each tour here is pay what you want, and the guide receives whatever the walker chooses to hand over.

There is exactly one revenue line, and it is small. When someone books a walk through a link here and the walk goes ahead, GuruWalk or freetour.com returns a referral share. Those two platforms host the entire roster, eight walks on GuruWalk and two on freetour.com, both led by Dan Vernier. Nothing else pays anything: no banner ads, no hotel blocks, no sponsored posts, no fee for placement. And since every walk runs on tips rather than tickets, there is no price that could be quietly marked up along the way.

All 10 walks here run on tips: 8 are listed on GuruWalk and 2 on freetour.com, each run by an independent local guide. Referral codes sit inside the links, including in the free walking tours directory, and those codes cost the visitor nothing. No banner ads, sponsored posts or paid placements appear on this site, and if another network ever joined, it would be named on this page before anywhere else.

What Earns Nothing Here

Referral money touches only the 10 guided walks. Everything else written about here, the lanes and squares of Gamla Stan, the open parkland of Djurgarden, the conditionally free rules at museums and landmarks, earns nothing at all. Those pages get the same care as the walks, because the point of the site is separating what is genuinely free from what only looks it.

Ratings and review counts appear exactly as each platform publishes them, never rounded up or merged. Nordic Freedom Tours' Old Town walk shows 4.69 across 1433 reviews on GuruWalk, while Scandic Tours' walk through the same neighbourhood sits at 4.46 across 115. Both keep their full figures, since a walk's record should stand at whatever size it actually is.

What No Payment Buys Here

• Each card was earned, not sold. Before any walk received a card here it was confirmed as a real, bookable pay-what-you-want tour, and its rating and review count were copied across unchanged from GuruWalk or freetour.com. That process produced ten walks in four categories, seven of them in Gamla Stan alone.
• No operator can buy a position. Nothing here is sponsored, and no tour company could purchase a better slot at any price. Where each walk sits in its category comes down to its own rating and review total, nothing else.
• Scale never changes the print. Rainbow Tours' Gamla Stan walk brings 3021 reviews and Gamla Stan Sightseeing's brings 47, and both counts appear in full, exactly as each platform records them.
• Reserving a place costs nothing. Every walk on this roster works on tips, so booking a spot is free and the guide receives whatever the walker decides the tour was worth once it ends. A coffee bought along the route or a metro ride to the meeting point is the walker's own spending, separate from the walk itself.
• Placement cannot be bought. The free-entry rules at Stockholm's state museums, the Royal Palace's outer courtyard where the Changing of the Guard takes place, the open parkland of Djurgarden: none of these return a single krona in commission. They get the same space as the walks, because the subject is what is genuinely free, not what pays.

Every Figure, As Published

Star ratings and review counts are copied straight from each walk's own page on its platform, unrounded and unblended. The two freetour.com walks carry review counts with no star average, so they appear that way rather than dressed up. Across the GuruWalk side of the roster the ratings run from 4.46 to 4.96, and no figures from different platforms are ever merged into one blended score.

No price is ever quoted, because none of these walks charges one. Booking costs nothing, guides are paid by tips alone, and the only numbers shown, durations, ratings and review counts, come from each walk's own page on its platform.

When To Skip This Site Entirely

This site is a signpost, not a gate. All ten walks, from Rainbow Tours' Gamla Stan routes to Dan Vernier's two freetour.com exclusives, can be reserved directly on their platforms at the same pay-what-you-want terms, and a visitor who skips this site entirely loses nothing. Questions settle better before a walk than halfway through one. The contact page takes queries on any of the ten walks, their ratings or the museum free-entry rules, and the about page records where each figure originates. A short email now beats arriving at a museum entrance that charges admission on the wrong evening.
